ROB DA BANK MIX

On Worldwide FM

Get horizontal and float downstream every Sunday evening with Rob da Bank. This week, Rob Da Bank is joined by the multitalented DJ, producer, singer, and gong meditation artist Sami Fitz.

"Over the last few months, as we’ve been in and out of lockdowns and isolations, I’ve been thinking about hope. Where does it come from? How do we build it? How does it keep us going? I’ve also been thinking about how important it is to notice where we place our hope. Is it in the right things? And in the right people for us? Do we place enough hope in ourselves? Our loved ones? Our societies?

We have the ability to make these choices every day - we have the chance to manage hope in ways that are constructive and non-constructive. Hope comes as a feeling but it’s up to you on how you interact with it. These are a few songs that explore those connections.

“The mainstream will likely never embrace such dark beauty, but we hold it near to our hearts…”

— A Closer Listen

Thank you to A Closer Listen’s Year’s Best Music Videos of 2018. I think this quote sums it up beautifully! Dead Birds is about climate change, our fear of death, and learning to be aware of our subconscious behaviours.

Ben Collier-Marsh, CD at WeCanMake in London experiments with layers and looks in this music video for his friend and musician Sami Fitz. A study in contrasts, the resulting piece is both vibrant and languid, fun and contemplative.

"Creatively Sami allowed us to experiment with the piece, so that’s exactly what we did. We decided to create a series of visual experiments playing with the relationships between image, negative space, nature, geometry and the human form."

HANDCLAP COLLAB

Worked on this spoken word track with my friend Barney during lockdown. Think it feels very 1990s NYC. Hope you enjoy!

BLACK SQUARE COLLAB

NETIL RADIO GUEST MIX

Was a lot of fun to sing on the opening track of the latest Black Square album. Trip Hop Nation called it one of the best releases of April 2020.

So much fun to join Ceylan Göksel for the second half of her radio show!

This year’s Swedenborg Film Festival also saw for the first time in its history a public vote, with over 500 votes cast. The winners were Matt Hulse & Sami Fitz for their film Salt, the result of a lockdown collaboration between two artists who had not previously met.
